Grohe, the worldwide leading provider of sanitary fittings, received one of the top places in the National German Sustainability Award at the ceremony held in Dusseldorf on 25 November 2016. The award is presented annually and stems from an initiative by Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e.V. in cooperation with the German Federal Government, local and business associations, NGOs and research institutions. This means that Grohe is one of the most sustainable of Germany’s major companies.
We are interested in this approach. Using demanding architecture by planners from the international architectural scene as an example, we have a look at sustainable use and integration of the products manufactured by our industrial partner, Grohe. In this edition we are presenting two flagship projects in Berlin and Hamburg where some of the functional rooms were equipped by Grohe.
Our contacts for this edition are the two founders of Robertneun archtectural office, Nils Buschmann and Tom Friedrich. With their ‘Wohnen am Lokdepot’ (‘Living at the Locomotive Depot’) project, they have not only set new standards but also uncovered the opportunities lying dormant in properties that have been previously neglected.
Grohe is involved in crowdfunding at the ‘Cabin Spacey’ project: The start-up Cabin Spacey, founded in Berlin by Simon Becker and Andreas Rauch, is intended to play a role in exploiting the potential from empty spaces on city roofs. They have developed a sustainable concept on a minute area. There are 50,000 unused roofs to hand in Berlin alone.
Enjoy the issue!
